If a LABEL parameter is omitted from a DD Statement for disk or cartridge data sets then the assumed default is LABEL=(1,SL). So what does Standard Label mean? In their own way, each of the columns in the table below represent Standard Label cartridges, in EBCDIC (rather than ASCII) form, and with no User Labels present.
Each label record will be an 80 byte record, and several records with different prefixes will make up the label set. The individual label records must be in the order depicted below.
